A paper map in the glove box
The crease over the city has worn through. I can put a finger on the hole and still know which exit it used to mark.
The screen in the car is fine on the road and useless in the garage, where it sits on a spinning circle. The map does not need a signal. I keep it under the manual, folded the same way every time.
Last week I used it for a street I already knew. That was the point. I wanted to see the paper, not get directions.
